The Reproductive and Child Health Programme Phase II (RCH
II) was launched in April 2005. The focus of the RCH
program is to reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio, Infant
Mortality Rate and Total Fertility Rate. It also aims to
increase the Couple Protection Rate and the coverage of
children through immunization. The specific outputs of
the program that contribute to the long term goals of
reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and
stabilizing the population include:
-
Increased contraceptive use by eligible couples
-
Reduced unmet need for birth spacing
-
Increased use of skilled care during childbirth
-
Improved postnatal and newborn care
-
Better access to emergency obstetric services and care of
sick children
-
Improved coverage for childhood immunization.
These objectives are to be achieved through the provision
of a common essential package of services delivery
mechanism to be implemented by the RCH programme.
